1. What does it cost to send a student to RYLA camp?


The sponsoring club pays $245 per student.
 

2. Where can I find out how many Foundation Credits our club has to help pay for the RYLA tuition?


A list of Foundation Credits for each club is available in the PDF document, About RYLA camp and Foundation Credits, which is available on the RYLA Downloads page.
 

3. When is the enrollment deadline?


Students should be identified with an application form no later than August 28th for the Session. To check the availability of slots in each session go to Student Registration.
 

4. How does our club get notified about RYLA camp?


Soon after May 1st each Club's President and President Elect receives an email with all the details about the upcoming RYLA program and a list of the Foundation Credits awarded each club (About RYLA camp and Foundation Credits). Updates are posted on the RYLA pages of the District web site.
 

5. Where can I get RYLA information and applications?

6. Who should I contact if I have more questions about RYLA?

7. What grade do the students have to be in to attend RYLA?


Students should be entering their Junior or Senior year of high school the year they attend RYLA camp.
 

8. How many students from one high school can attend the same camp?


Not more than three (3) students from the same high school are allowed to attend the same RYLA session.
 

9. What does RYLA stand for?


RYLA stands for Rotary Youth Leadership Awards.
 

10. Who notifies the student if they have been selected to attend RYLA camp?


Each club is responsible for sending a congratulatory letter with details about attending the RYLA camp (what to bring, directions, etc...). A letter for each of the two different camps is available for downloading at RYLA Downloads.
 

11. Do students receive a RYLA certificate?


Sponsoring clubs are encouraged to present each student, who successfully completes the RYLA program, with a certificate. This could be done at a regular club meeting when the student(s) gives a short talk about their RYLA experience. The RYLA certificate is available on the RYLA Downloads page.
 

12. What do students need to pack for the weekend?


You are to provide your own bedding (bunks provided) and towels.


Comfortable clothes for outdoors and participating in group activities. For example, tennis shoes, change of clothes plus an extra pair of tennis shoes in case you get caught in the rain. You might bring a raincoat as well. Outdoor activities are only canceled if there is lightening.


The essentials like toothbrush, brush and comb, soap, shampoo, etc... . You might bring flip-flops to wear in the shower.


Some outdoor activities are at night, so bring a long-sleeved shirt and some long jeans. A hat would be a good idea, as well as some insect repellent. You might bring an extra towel. A flashlight for sure.


Do not bring TV's, fans, boom boxes, video games, etc...


 

13. Do students need to bring any money?


Students do not need to bring money. Plenty of snacks and drinks are provided.
 

14. What can students expect to gain by attending RYLA?

  • Improvement in leadership skills

  • Increased awareness about themselves and their capabilities

  • Increased self-confidence and the ability to rise to new challenges

  • Improved team working skills and ability to fit into teams more easily

  • Something positive to put on a resume or application

  • An opportunity to meet a wide range of young people with similar interests and a network of new like-minded friends

 

15. What will be expected of a student attending RYLA?

Students will be expected to:

  • Spend the full and entire weekend at RYLA

  • Participate in all activities, showing the best of your leadership skills, with a good attitude and open mind

  • Follow the easy rules of the host camp

  • Visit your sponsoring Rotary Club after RYLA and make a short presentation on what they gained by attending

  • To have fun and enjoy themselves!

 

16. How can interested students apply?


Interested students should ask their employer, school teacher, principle or youth club leader to nominate them through any Rotary Club within the district.
