Keynote Speakers - District Conference 2022

 

Rotary International Director 2008-2010, Treasurer 2009-2010

Mike Colasurdo has been a member of the Rotary Club of Brick Township, New Jersey for the past 33 years, having proudly served in all positions of leadership culminating in the Presidency in Rotary year 1993-94. He has held numerous district-wide positions, which include District Club Service Director from 1994-96 and District Governor in 1997-98.  Following his tenure as District Governor, Michael served as District Trainer for four years,  served as District Foundation Chair during which time district 7500 was number one among all districts in zones 31 and 32 in Annual Giving, faculty member of several Zone Institutes and as Regional Vice Chair of the Rotary Leadership Institute.  Michael has been elected to serve as his District’s Representative to the Council on Legislation in 2001, 2004 and 2007. Presently, at the appointment of District Governor Harriet Primack, Michael serves as Chair of the “Team 7500 Membership Development, Retention and Extension Committee” in support of all clubs in the district.

 

Chinemelu Okafor is a researcher, and scholar originating from Umuoji, Anambra State, Nigeria. Raised in Lansing, Michigan and a graduate of Waverly High School, Chinemule was a Rotary Youth Leadership Awards participant and Interact member. Currently, she is a doctoral student, Graduate Prize Fellow, and Karl Deutsch Fellow at Harvard University, where her research and advocacy aim to confront pressing social, political, and economic policy issues through a normative lens. Chinemelu concurrently works as the Founder and President of the Research in Color Foundation, a 501c(3) non-profit organization which seeks to increase the number of historically excluded scholars in economics and economics-adjacent fields through mentorship and financial support. In the past, she has worked with institutions such as the World Bank, the United Nations, Reuters, and the Royal African Society, among others. Chinemelu holds a Bachelor’s in Economics and International Studies from the University of Michigan and a Master’s in Applied Economics from the George Washington University.

 

Taylor Huie is a Design Engineer at Stryker Instruments in Portage, Michigan and a recent biomedical engineering graduate from Duke University. Raised in a Rotary family, she started early in Rotary leadership as charter President of the 140-member Interact Club of St. Joseph High School, which has raised over $100,000 for education, water, and medical projects for Haitian immigrants in the Dominican Republic. In 2018, she served as founding President of the Rotaract Club of Duke University, launching with an initial 360 members, and gaining the attention of Rotary International. She currently serves as the Co-Chair and a founding Board Member of the Ascension Rotaract Network MDIO for Zones 28-34 and D6360 District Rotaract Co-Chair.
